2ND MODEL BOLT ACTION MUSKET. Cal. 45-70. S#. 4823. Bbl. 29" round. Pinned blade front with military style graduated leaf rear sight. Breech end of bbl. is marked "US" over a Navy anchor & "WWK" inspector mark. Right side of bbl. is marked "VP" over eagles head. Bolt & left receiver rail have "HN." inspector marks. Tubular magazine is located in the stock. 2 band fastened walnut stock with steel musket buttplate. Toe line has circle "P" proof mark. Button tipped iron cleaning rod appears to be replacement. UNATTACHED ACCESORIES: Cody Firearms Museum letter dated 9-4,2023 and signed by Waddy Colvert. The letter states: Rifle / "Navy" / "New system" / (No shipping date given) / Received in warehouse on December 11, 1881". CONDITION: metal finish has faded to gray showing spotted corrosion. Sanded stock shows numerous remaining dents & marks with a chipped toe. The wrist has a long crack extending from the top tang. .Sound action.
